The following document is useful if you are setting up ACT and ACT for the Web and need to know how to tell your firewall to show ACT as an exception. It also documents ports that need to be available.
Adding Program Exceptions to Windows Firewall for ACT! and SQL Server
- Click the Windows Start button, click Control Panel
- Click Administrative Tools, select Windows Firewall with Advanced Features. Note: You will have to complete the following steps for each program exception.
- On the left side, right-click on Inbound Rules and select New Rule.
- Select Program and then click Next.
- Click Browse and then navigate to the program process using the table below.

Note: Not all processes will be available, depending on your version of Sage ACT!. Important Note: If you have ACT! Premium for Web installed, then use "Act for Web" instead of "ACT for Windows" in the filepath where applicable.

- After browsing to the program process, click OKand then press Next to progress to the next screen.
- Select Allow the connectionand click Next.
- Ensure all boxes are selected and click Next.
- Enter a Namefor the program exception and click Finish.
Note: You will also need to follow these steps to create an Outbound Rule as well for each exclusion. Adding Port Exception to Windows Firewall for ACT! and SQL Server
- Click the Windows Start button, browse to Administrative Toolsand select Windows Firewall with Advanced Features.
Note: You will have to complete the following steps for each port exception.
- On the left side, right-click on Inbound Rules and select New Rule.
- Select Port and then click Next.
- Using the table below, enter the port type and port
- You will want to add exceptions for the following ports:

Use the following steps to verify the current Port number the Publisher database is monitoring for network synchronization:
- Launch the ACT! Network Sync Service:
- The port will be listed in the Monitor Port section.
TCP Application Synchronization
Use the following steps to verify the current port number the Publisher database is monitoring for application synchronization:
- Click Tools, select Synchronization, click Accept Incoming Sync. If synchronization was already enabled the following Sync Results message box appears:
- Click OK to stop synchronization.
- Click Tools, select Synchronization, click Accept Incoming Sync.
- Verify the Port number and click OK. The following Sync Result message box appears:
- Click to OK to clear this message box.
TCP Click the Windows® Start button, and then click Run. The Run dialog box appears.
- Type in actdiag and click Ok. Windows Vista® and Windows® 7 users will enter actdiag in the Search box on Start Menu and click Ok.
- If the Disclaimer box appears, just click Ok.
- Click Server on the left-hand side, select Server Security.
- The TCP/IP Port number will be indicated on this screen (see below).
Note: If the dynamically assigned port number is not displayed, follow these steps to identify:
- On Server Security screen, click Server Configuration Manager.
- On SQL Server Configuration Manager screen, expand SQL Server Network Configuration.
- Left click on Protocols for ACT7 to select.
- In right column, right click on TCP/IP tab, select Properties.
- On TCP Properties screen, click on the IP Addresses
- Scroll to bottom and locate TCP Dynamic Ports. This is the port number to enter as an exception.
- After entering in the specified port's information click Next to progress to the next screen.
- Select Allow the connection and click Next.
- Ensure all boxes are selected and click Next.
- Enter a Namefor the port exception and click Finish.
Note: You will also need to follow these steps to create an Outbound Rule as well for each exception.
